Drug transporter related research continues to grow at a rapid pace, in part driven by the emergence of several white papers from the International Transporter Consortium (ITC) and updated regulatory guidance documents from the FDA, EMA and PMDA in the last 5 years. Although considerable progress has been made over the past 20 years, the field of drug transport continues to evolve, particularly with respect to clinical translation of pre-clinical (in vitro/ in vivo) data, understanding the interplay of drug transporters and metabolizing enzymes, and the role of transporters in disease and toxicity.
