Approximately 300,000 children from infancy to age 14 are diagnosed with cancer worldwide every year ^[1]. Although cure rates for some pediatric cancers have increased to about 80% in recent decades, cancer is still the leading cause of death by disease in the developed world among children over one year of age.

While much less is known about the cause of childhood cancers than that of adult cancers, we do know that various genomic and epigenomic alterations play an important role ^[2-3]. Pediatric cancers arise mostly from somatic mutations in cancer driver genes, yet 5-10% have a hereditary basis due to rare genetic disorders ^[4-5].
