John serves Adventist HealthCare as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. His Main Thing is to deploy a systematic approach to running the company using its Leadership System. He believes his role as a leader is to make it easy for everyone associated with the company to achieve excellence.  With a Bachler of Arts degree from Walla Walla University and a Master of Health Administration degree from Loma Linda University John began his work as a health care administrator in 1981. He spent a year at Glendale Adventist Medical Center completing a hospital administration residency after which he moved to Boulder, Colorado working as an Administrative Assistant at Boulder Memorial Hospital responsible for Patient Business and Housekeeping. Demonstrating his skill as a visionary and business development he identified the need for the hospital to grow its range of services and started Colorado’s first eating disorders treatment center. In 1985 John was promoted to Vice President. Playing a key role in the administrative team, he helped the organization identify the need to move the hospital to the growing town of Louisville. At the age of 32, the Board appointed him to the role of Hospital President, a year before the new hospital opened in 1990 with a new name: Avista Adventist Hospital. Under his leadership the hospital gained a reputation for high quality, high employee satisfaction, high patient satisfaction, and solid financial performance. The hospital also received the Centura Health’s award for multiple years in row for being the highest performing hospital – The Phoenix Award.

During the time he served as the CEO and President of Avista Adventist Hospital, owned by Advent Health, and operated as part of Centura Health.  John also served in additional roles, including CEO of Porter Adventist Hospital, CEO of Plate Valley Medical Center, Senior Vice President for Mission, and Ministry of Centura Health, and Senior Vice President of the Mountain and North Denver region, coordinating the work of Saint Anthony Central Hospital, Saith Anthony North Hospital, Summit Medical Center, and Avista Adventist Hospital.  

John joined the Adventist HealthCare as President of Shady Grove Medical Center (SGMC) in 2013 and in 2014 added the additional title of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Adventist HealthCare. In 2019 John became the full time Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Adventist HealthCare.
