Mike is a BHI Entrepreneur in Residence and a Managing Partner at Bold Brain Capital, an AI-focused venture capital firm investing in digital health startups in the imaging markets. He also provides fractional CEO services for several medical technology, digital health, and medical device startups and serves as a Senior Commercialization Advisor for DARPA/NobleReach Foundation for the Embedded Entrepreneur Initiative (EEI), managing a portfolio of over two dozen DARPA-funded performers. The White House (OSTP) recruited Mike to be one of the founding architects of a new government agency (ARPA-H), where he led the creation of the commercialization strategy for ARPA-H programs. Mike was a VC at the Inova Health System Strategic Investments (ISI), managing a $150MM strategic fund alongside two partners. Before Inova, he spent over 20 years as a serial healthcare technology CEO, raising $125 million in capital and achieving shareholder returns ranging from 4x to 80x, including one IPO and one acquisition. Most recently, Mike was the founder and CEO of Appian Medical, a digital health firm serving the sleep apnea market. Previously, he was CEO of iSonea Ltd (ASX:ISN), a publicly traded global mobile health app developer and medical device manufacturer in the respiratory disease market, where he increased the company’s market capitalization from $4MM to $250MM. Earlier in his career, he was President and CEO of Sleep Solutions, a VC-backed medical device manufacturer, EVP of Sales and Marketing for National Sleep Technologies (NST, acquired by GE Medical), and Vice President of Sales at Patient InfoSystems (NASDAQ: PATI). Mike began his career in sales and marketing at Merck and GlaxoWellcome and is a former board member of AdvaMed, the global medical device association.
