The Maryland Tech Council’s Advocacy Summit enables industry leaders to connect with elected officials, share insights on public policy, and learn how advocacy can make a difference in Annapolis. The program will include panel discussions, presentations, and a networking reception. Learn about leveraging advocacy with policymakers and opportunities to achieve legislative, regulatory and other policy objectives that advance the interests of tech and life sciences in Maryland.

IBBR Maryland BioNetworking Summit

Please join us on Wednesday, February 8th from 6-8pm for a bioscience-focused networking event series designed to highlight the area’s unique life science ecosystem and to promote interactions between its diverse stakeholders.  Sponsored and organized by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR) – a joint partnership between the University of Maryland and NIST – and the Universities at Shady Grove, the event will bring together scientists from academia, government, and industry for an evening of science, networking, and socializing. The keynote speaker for the inaugural BioNetworking Summit on February 8th will be Dr. Peter Marks, Director, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, FDA where he will present “Advancing Cell and Gene Therapy to the Next Level”.

 This in-person evening event will consist of a talk followed by a networking social with refreshments at the Biomedical Sciences and Engineering (BSE) Education Facility at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville. Registration is free but required.

Lessons in Raising Capital: A Look at Financing Strategy and Approach

Many parties are involved when a life sciences startup is raising capital. This program will explore strategic and tactical considerations of equity financing for life sciences companies from the legal, investor, and start up perspectives. The panel discussion will cover investor outreach, presentation materials and potential sources and types of equity capital.

The panelists will also explore how to raise equity at various stages of the company’s life cycle, and how navigate fundraising hurdles such as the due diligence process, costs and commonly negotiated terms.
