For the eighth year the National Institute of Mental Health is pleased to invite you to attend the rescheduled first of a series of lectures dedicated to innovation, invention, and scientific discovery. This year's opening lecture will be given by Dr. Gregory Gage Co-founder of Backyard Brains https://backyardbrains.com/ .
The public has a fascination with the brain and how it functions, and the headlines of popular magazines are often Neuroscience-related in content. Given this interest, it is strange that there is little attention given to neuroscience education prior to advanced undergraduate or graduate school. One reason may be the lack of low cost and engaging teaching materials. To address this, Dr. Gage and colleagues have developed a suite of open-source tools which are appropriate for amateurs and for use in middle/high school educational programs. Their focus is on hands-on experiments and electrophysiology.
