Chief Science Officer: Pathways to Leadership, Careers in Life Science

A collaborative program among Montgomery College, Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES), Human Workflows, Montgomery County Dept. of Economic Development (DED), and the Federal Laboratories Consortium(FLC).

If you aspire to begin a pathway to scientific management and leadership, and perhaps become a Chief Science Officer, then this boot camp is for you! Outstanding faculty and industry guest speakers will guide you through this 45 hour boot camp divided into two modules. The series will provide you with the tools, knowledge, and skills needed to move up the career ladder from research into scientific management and leadership in the federal, academic, or commercial management career by adding this two part program and certificate of completion to your resume.

Health IT Forum: Mobile devices and Healthcare: Securing Information, Protecting Privacy

The Tech Council of Maryland (TCM), Montgomery County Department of Economic Development (DED), and the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) have partnered to advance the innovation of Health IT in Montgomery County, Maryland, and therefore advance health IT for the entire United States.  We are providing a series of 4 events this year. Join us at the next Health IT Forum:  Mobile devices and Healthcare: Securing Information, Protecting Privacy on February 28, 2013 from 7:30 AM – 10:00 AM, at Johns Hopkins University Montgomery County Campus.  We have assembled a panel of experts that will discuss how mobility has enhanced patient care and while it improves operational efficiency, the risk of data is compromised.  Registration is only $49.

NIH Rare Disease Awareness Event to encourage Research Collaborations

Rare Disease Day, held each year on February 28, was established to raise awareness about the estimated 7,000 rare diseases that affect about 25 million Americans. To mark the occasion in 2013, the NIH will host a free, two-day public event beginning on this day to focus on rare diseases research and advocacy activities supported by several government agencies.

The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Office of Rare Diseases Research (ORDR) and the NIH Clinical Center are organizing and hosting the event. Others involved include the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Agency for Healthcare Research Quality, and patient organizations, such as the Genetic Alliance and National Organization for Rare Disorders.
