On April 8, 2025, the Maryland MedTech Summit convened nearly 370 leaders from across the medical technology ecosystem at the University of Maryland, College Park, spotlighting the depth and diversity of the region’s growing MedTech community. Held at the Stamp Student Union as the flagship event of the inaugural Maryland MedTech Week, the summit offered a full day of programming, networking, and insights into the future of device innovation. This was the 2nd Annual Maryland MedTech Summit, and the Inaugural Maryland MedTech Week, which also featured investor-focused events hosted by Ecphora Capital, The LaunchPort, and the two-day MedTech Innovator East Coast Road Tour.
BioHealth Innovation, Inc. (BHI) was proud to serve as a sponsor of this year’s summit and sent a strong delegation of Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIRs), including Luis Gutiérrez, Albine Martin, Jon Kay, Ray Blanchard, and John Sullivan, all of whom provide strategic commercialization support to MedTech startups and early-stage companies across the BioHealth Capital Region and beyond.
With panels featuring leaders from Johnson & Johnson, Siemens Healthineers, Google, Amazon Web Services, MedTech Innovator, TEDCO, and more, the event explored major themes such as:
- AI and machine learning applications in MedTech
- Access to care and equitable innovation
- National accelerator programs and federal opportunities
- Go-to-market strategy, FDA modernization, and reimbursement
- Recent medtech success stories and ecosystem building
“The Maryland MedTech Summit reflected what our region does best—connecting innovators to solve real-world challenges,” said Luis Gutiérrez, BHI EIR. “From AI-driven device innovation to new regulatory frameworks, the discussions were both strategic and actionable. It’s exciting to see the community come together like this to accelerate progress.”
The depth and breadth of the sessions underscored just how collaborative and resource-rich the Maryland ecosystem has become. From early-stage ventures to global MedTech firms, participants engaged in meaningful conversations about commercialization strategy, research translation, and public-private partnership opportunities.
“What made the 2025 Maryland MedTech Summit and MedTech Week so impactful was the remarkable collaboration across every corner of the ecosystem,” said Martha Wang, Assistant Director of the Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices. “Startups, global medtech companies, academic institutions, government agencies, and investors all came together with shared energy and purpose. The MedTech Innovator program added even more momentum to the Week by spotlighting emerging talent and fostering meaningful connections. This kind of synergy is exactly what’s propelling the Maryland region to the forefront of medtech innovation.”
Throughout the day, the BHI EIR team met with entrepreneurs, ecosystem partners, and institutional investors—sharing insights on clinical development, commercialization strategies, regulatory positioning, and more.
“We are incredibly proud of the 2025 Maryland MedTech Summit, a testament to the power of collaboration and community within our medtech industry,” said Stefanie Trop, Ph.D., Director, Office of Life Sciences, Maryland Department of Commerce. “The overwhelming participation highlights our collective dedication to advancing innovation in this critical field. We look forward to strengthening these partnerships within, and outside of, the state, and building on this success to further reinforce Maryland as a premier medtech hub.”
That collaborative energy reflects the strength of Maryland’s MedTech infrastructure—built on access to top-tier talent, federal research agencies, university innovation hubs, and targeted state and local programs. Summits like this reinforce the critical role Maryland plays in the national innovation landscape and the continued importance of strategic gatherings.
“Events like the Maryland MedTech Summit are essential to the continued growth of our regional innovation economy,” said Rich Bendis, President and CEO of BHI. “They connect the dots between ideas, talent, capital, and infrastructure. We were proud to sponsor this year’s event and support our EIRs in amplifying Maryland’s leadership in MedTech and the life sciences.”
With robust university partnerships, proximity to key federal health agencies, and an expanding pool of entrepreneurial talent, Maryland—and the broader BioHealth Capital Region—continues to emerge as a national leader in MedTech innovation. The 2025 Summit was a strong signal of that momentum in action.
